The planned restructuring of the sugar industry, expected to come on stream early 2009, will move one step closer to fruition next Monday.

That is when a team of industry stakeholders, led by an Implementation Committee from the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BADMC), is  expected to sit down to draft  an Implementation Plan for the restructuring exercise.

Word of this has come from Chief Agricultural Officer, Barton Clarke, who added that this  planning workshop will be attended by representatives of the BADMC and its Board as well as the officials from the Barbados Sugar Industry Limited and the Barbados Light and Power Company Ltd., among others.

It is hoped that the Implementation Plan will be completed by month-end so that the design work can be started.

The use of ethanol for fuel is one of the tenets of the restructuring.
