COVID-19 update and question and answer session – January 04, 2021. (PMO)

One of the service providers of Government’s COVID-19 hotline has given the assurance that changes will be made to improve the technical service of the hotline to the public.

Chairman of the Cabinet’s COVID-19 Sub-committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, disclosed this last night, during a COVID-19 update to the nation at Ilaro Court.

He said: “I’ve been reassured by one of the providers that within two to three days the whole system will be improved, where you will have queuing of calls and automaticity of returning calls for those who might have been disconnected or got tired waiting.”

Minister Walcott added that Government had recognised the need to have a better and more dedicated communication system, and it is expected that this improvement would reduce the concerns expressed by the public on the inability to get through to the hotline.

The 24-hour COVID-19 hotline number is 536-4500. It is manned by public health officers, and has been set up to respond to queries about the coronavirus.

Both Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Minister Walcott emphasised the importance of continued communication with the public, especially in reiterating the need to follow the COVID-19 protocols, which include the wearing of masks, hand sanitising and physical distancing, which they stressed is vital in combating the coronavirus.
