Farmers wanting to access the Agricultural Incentive Scheme are reminded they can still do so through the Ministry of Agriculture.

This disclosure was made by Senior Agriculture Officer, Dr. Dennis Blackman, who said he wanted to get the message out to those farmers and members of the farming community that they could still take full advantage of this scheme.

He said: "Right now in relation to Resource Protection and Management there is a rebate of 50 per cent up to a maximum of $7,500 per farm, per annum of the cost of cleaning, drainage and refurbishment of existing wells on farms, and this will be granted to registered farmers by Government."

The senior agricultural official further indicated that with regards to rodent control a rebate of 50 per cent up to a maximum of $3,000.00 per registered farm, per year would be granted towards the purchase and application of rat bait or other approved rodent extermination and control devices. He also noted that each application must be a minimum of $100.00 in order to qualify.

"The Ministry does have incentives in place and we want the relevant persons to be able to access them once they have met the required criteria," he stated.

The Ministry has currently paid over BDS $1million for approximately 400 applications for rebates and grants to farmers in the last financial year.

Further information about the scheme may be obtained by contacting Dr. Dennis Blackman at the Ministry of Agriculture, Graeme Hall, Christ Church, at telephone number 434-5000.
