Those who are awaiting their 2008 income tax returns should soon receive them.

This promise has come from the Department of Inland Revenue.

The Commissioner and staff of the department have reaffirmed their commitment in finalising these refunds and gave the assurance that the remaining payments will be made "in a timely manner".

The Department of Inland Revenue said that it had implemented an automated tax administration system to facilitate the processing of the 2008 and subsequent income years’ tax returns of Barbadians.?? The fully internet oriented system requires third-party providers to submit their tax information for their employers and customers.

However, the department explained that during the implementation of the project, some challenges were experienced, which affected the processing of the refunds.

The agency has apologised to taxpayers for the inordinate delay in the finalisation of these payments.
