Come Friday, November 30 – Independence Day – St. John will be a hive of activity as the Constituency Council stages a number of events to celebrate the occasion.
At 6:30 a.m. that day, there will be a bicycle race beginning at the Gall Hill playing field. It will travel along Glebe Land, Coach Hill, Bath Land, Sargeant Street, Sealy Hall, Palmer’s, Skeete’s Hill, Stewart Hill, Massiah Street, Guinea, Ashford, Bowmanston, Cherry Grove, Four Roads, Wakefield, Venture, Malvern, Edgecliff, Clifton, and the St. John Parish Church, before returning to the starting point.
Meanwhile, a walking race, scheduled to begin at 6:45 a.m., will leave the Gall Hill playing field and continue through Glebe Land, Coach Hill, Bath Land, Sargeant Street, Sealy Hall, Palmer’s, Skeete’s Hill, Stewart Hill, Massiah Street and Colleton. The race will end at the Gall Hill playing field.????
The Council will also host an Independence Fun Fair at the Gall Hill playing field and hardcourt, from noon until 10:00 p.m. Patrons will be treated to games, cultural performances, and musical entertainment, while traditional Bajan dishes and drinks will be on sale.
During that event, there will be a flag-raising ceremony at the playing field, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Cadets, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and Brownies of St. John schools, as well as uniformed groups from the constituency, are invited to participate in the official ceremony where prominent resident of St. John, Graydon Sealy, will take the salute and deliver an address.
Residents of St. John who are interested in participating in these events are advised to register at the Council’s office located at the Gall Hill Welfare Office Complex, on or before Sunday, November 18.
Food and drink vendors interested in obtaining a stall are asked to submit their menus along with their registration forms no later than Friday, November 16. Persons are also asked to obtain the necessary liquor and health certificates. ????????????
