Barbadians are expected to come out in their numbers to witness this year’s Independence Gala and Ceremonial Parade at the Garrison Savannah, this Saturday, November 29.

The event, which will mark Barbados’ 42nd anniversary of Independence, will be held under the theme “Barbados on the Move; Growing Through Excellence”.

Persons attending the 8:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sunday, November 30 event will witness a multimedia extravaganza, which dramatises the changing face of the Barbadian cultural, social and political landscape over the past four decades merged with elements of the military ceremonial parade.

The segments will include Birth of a Nation, featuring Nicholas Brancker and the Independence Gala Band, Mighty Destroyer and Mark Lorde; Rhythm of the Nation, during which Tony Grazette, Desmond Weekes and Michael Thompson will perform spouge music in tribute to Jackie Opel; and Crop Over Revived, where a Crop Over – like atmosphere will be created.

The other sections are: A Nation Comes of Age (the decade of the 80s’, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, ‘, NULL, NULL, 0); the decade of the 90s – Saluting Barbadian Excellence, with performances by RPB and Adrian Clarke; and The New Millennium – A Tribute to the Youth.

The entertainment session will be followed by the ceremonial parade, after which there will be the announcement of the Independence Awards for 2008 and a fireworks display.

Meanwhile, persons attending the gala and parade are asked to note that tickets for seating are no longer available.
