The Inter-denominational National Independence Service and the Independence Parade will be the two main highlights of this year’s 44th anniversary Independence celebrations.
The Service, which will take place at Independence Square on Sunday, November 28, at 4:00 p.m., will be preceded by a youth procession from Jubilee Gardens in the City.
The march will commence at 3:00 p.m. and travel along Broad Street, across Charles Duncan O’Neal Bridge and onto Independence Square. Approximately 500 young people from various sporting organisations, service associations, marching and non-marching bands are expected to participate in the event.
In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
On Tuesday, November 30, Independence Day, the Garrison Savannah will come alive, as the Independence Parade is staged there.
The parade will begin at 8:00 a.m. with an inspection of troops by Governor General, Sir Clifford Husbands. This will be followed by the march past of the armed and unarmed units, a salute to the nation, and a parade into Bridgetown. During the procession, Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart, will review the marching troops in front of Government Headquarters.
There will also be a number of cultural activities in various communities to add to the independence celebrations, as this nation marks another milestone in its history.
