The Index of Industrial Production for the month of July 2013 was 76.1. This indicated that the output levels decreased by 0.7 of a point, or 0.9 per cent compared with the previous month and increased by 2.5 points or 3.4 per cent when compared with July 2012.

The Manufacturing division, which is the main component of the Production Index, decreased by 2.6 points or 4.3 per cent compared with June and increased by 2.9 points or 5.3 per cent compared with July 2012.

The Mining and Quarrying Division decreased by 7.8 points or 9.2 per cent compared with June 2013, and declined by 1.8 points or 2.3 per cent when compared with July 2012. The Electricity, Gas and Water Division rose by 9.0 points or 6.0 per cent above that of the previous month.

Manufacturing Index

The group movements within this division are detailed as follows:

Food:

The Food division for July 2013 decreased by 3.3 points or 3.8 per cent below that of June 2013 and declined by 5.6 points or 6.2 per cent in comparison to July 2012.

Beverages and Tobacco
:

The combined Index fell by 0.1 of a point or 0.1 per cent compared to the previous month and increased by 4.8 points or 6.4 per cent compared to July 2012.

The Beverages Index remained unchanged when compared with the previous month and increased by 6.8 points or 6.5 per cent over that of the previous month.

The output for Tobacco fell 0.1 of a point or 23.3 per cent compared with the previous month and rose by 0.1 of a point or 19.7 per cent in comparison with July 2012.

Wearing Apparel:

This division increased slightly by 0.1 of a point or 1.2 per cent above that of the previous month, and declined by 7.6 points or 45.6 per cent below the previous year.

Wooden Furniture:

This division increased by 33.2 points or 30.9 per cent over June 2013 and increased by 25.1 points or 21.8 per cent over July 2012.

Chemicals:

The combined index for this division increased by 4.4 points or 5.5 per cent in comparison to the previous month and increased by 2.8 points or 3.5 per cent over July 2012.

The Industrial Chemical Index rose by 51.1 points or 32.4 per cent over June 2013, and the Other Chemicals Index fell by 14.3 points or 30.1 per cent below the previous month.

Non-Metallic Products:

Output for this group fell by 34.6 points or 15.5 per cent compared to June 2013, and increased significantly by 104.4 points or 122.7 per cent compared to July 2012.

Electronic Components:

The index for this group fell by 9.7 points or 50.7 per cent over the previous month and declined by 3.5 points or 27.2 per cent below the previous year.

Other Manufacturing:

This index decreased by 3.6 points or 4.9 per cent below the previous month and decreased by 7.2 points or 9.5 per cent below July 2012.

Mining and Quarrying

Within the mining sub-division, crude oil rose by 9.4 points or 15.4 per cent compared with the previous month and increased by 14.4 points or 25.7 per cent compared with July 2012. The Quarrying sub-division fell by 20.5 points or 20.1 per cent compared with that of the previous month.

Electricity, Gas and Water

Within the Electricity, Gas and Water division, the net generation of electricity increased by 11.1 points or 6.7 per cent above the previous month. Natural Gas increased by 1.0 points or 2.6 per cent over June 2013. Net generation of water rose by 4.1 points or 3.4 per cent over the previous month.
