The Index of Retail Prices for August 2011 stood at 158.8 points.

This represented an increase of 0.8 per cent when compared with the 157.6 points recorded in July, 2011.

Increases were recorded for housing by 2.4 per cent; household operations and supplies by 2.1 per cent; medical and personal care by 1.9 per cent; clothing and footwear by 1.4 per cent; transportation by 1.4 per cent; food by 0.6 per cent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.3 per cent and education, recreation and miscellaneous by 0.3 per cent.

A decrease of 4.1 per cent was registered for fuel and light. Between August 2010 and August 2011, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 10.6 per cent from 143.6 points to 158.8 points.

The average inflation rate for the 12-month period, August 2010 to August 2011, was 7.5 per cent.
