The Index of Retail Prices for August 2012 stood at 162.6 points. This represented an increase of 0.4 per cent, when compared with the 162.0 points recorded in July 2012.

Increases were recorded for Housing- 1.6 per cent; Clothing and Footwear-1.4 per cent; Food by 1.2 per cent; Medical and Personal Care -0.7 per cent; and Fuel and Light by 0.7 per cent.

However, decreases were recorded for Transportation -1.9 per cent; Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco by 1.4 per cent; and Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous by 0.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Index for Household Operations and Supplies remained constant for the month of August 2012.

Between August 2011 and August 2012, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 2.4 per cent from 158.8 points to 162.6 points, while for the same period, the average inflation rate was 7.1 per cent.
