The Index of Retail Prices for August 2013 stood at 167.2 points. This represented an increase of 0.5 per cent when compared with the 166.3 points recorded in July 2013.

Increases were recorded for Medical and Personal Care 3.5 per cent; Fuel and Light – 1.3 per cent; Food 0.8 per cent; Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous 0.5 per cent; Clothing and Footwear – 0.1 per cent and Housing – 0.1 per cent.

Decreases were recorded for Transportation 0.6 per cent; Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco 0.5 per cent; and Household Operations and Supplies 0.3 per cent.

Between August 2012 and August 2013, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 2.8 per cent from 162.6 to 167.2 points. The average inflation rate for the 12-month period August 2012 and August 2013 was 2.2 per cent.
