The Index of Retail Prices for August 2018 stood at 184.3 points. This represented a decrease of 0.4 per cent when compared to the 185.1 points recorded in July 2018.

Increases were recorded in Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 3.0 per cent; Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages by 0.6 per cent; Clothing and Footwear by 0.4 per

cent; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels by 0.4 per cent; Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics by 0.3 per cent; Restaurants and Hotels by 0.2 per cent; and Communication by 0.1 per cent.

Declines were recorded for Education by 38.8 per cent; Transport by 1.8 per cent; Health by 0.7 per cent; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance by 0.3 per cent; and Recreation and Culture by 0.1 per cent.

Between August 2017 and August 2018, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 2.7 per cent from 179.4 points to 184.3 points.  The average inflation rate for the 12-month period was 5.4 per cent.
