The index of retail prices for August 2014 stood at 172.3 points. This represented an increase of 1.4 per cent when compared with the 170.0 points recorded in July 2014.

Increases were recorded for Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous by 15.2 per cent; Fuel and Light 1.8 per cent; Transportation 1.2 per cent; Medical and Personal Care 0.4 per cent; and Food 0.3 per cent.

Decreases were recorded for Housing by 1.0 per cent; Clothing and Footwear 0.5 per cent; Household Operations and Supplies 0.3 per cent. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco remained constant over the period.

Between August 2013 and August 2014, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 3.0 per cent from 167.2 points to 172.3 points. The average inflation rate for the 12-month period August 2013 and August 2014 was 1.7 per cent.
