The Index of Retail Prices for December 2012 remained at 165.5 points when compared with the index of November 2012.

Increases of 1.2 per cent were recorded for Food and 1.1 per cent for Fuel and Light.

Decreases were recorded for Transportation – 2.7 per cent; Clothing and Footwear by 1.7 per cent; Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco – 0.8 per cent; and Medical and Personal Care – 0.2 per cent. The group indices for Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous; Housing and Household Operations and Supplies all declined 0.3 per cent.

Between December 2011 and December 2012, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 2.4 per cent, from 161.6 points to 165.5 points. The average inflation rate for the 12-month period ending December 2012 was 4.5 per cent.
