The Index of Retail Prices for December 2013 stood at 167.3 points, representing a decrease of 0.7 per cent when compared with the 168.4 points recorded the previous month.

Increases of 1.4 per cent were recorded for Clothing and Footwear; 1.2 per cent for Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco; and 0.2 per cent for Medical and Personal Care.

Decreases of 4.4 per cent were recorded for Fuel and Light; 2.6 per cent for Transportation; 0.5 per cent for Household Operations and Supplies; 0.1 per cent for Food; and 0.1 per cent for Housing. Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous remained constant over the period.

Between December 2012 and December 2013, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 1.1 per cent, from 165.5 points to 168.4 points, while the average inflation rate for 2013 stood at 1.8 per cent.
