The Index of Retail Prices for February 2011 stood at 151.4 points. This represented an increase of 1.7 per cent when compared with the 148.9 points recorded in January 2011.

Increases were recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.7 per cent; housing by 0.5 per cent; fuel and light by 2.6 per cent; household operations and supplies by 0.9 per cent; transportation by 5.8 per cent; education, recreation and miscellaneous by 7.4 per cent; clothing and footwear by 0.3 per cent and medical and personal care by 1.6 per cent.

However, a decline was registered for food by 0.3 per cent.

Between February 2010 and February 2011, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 8.4 per cent from 139.7 points to 151.4 points.

The average inflation rate for the 12-month period, February 2010 to February 2011 was 6.3 per cent.
