The Index of Retail Prices for July 2017 stood at 176.5 points, representing an increase of 1.3 per cent when compared with the 174.3 points recorded in June.

According to data produced by the Barbados Statistical Service, increases were recorded for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages by 1.8 per cent; Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics by 3.6 per cent; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Housing Maintenance by 0.6 per cent; Health by 0.1 per cent; Transport by 4.1 per cent; Recreation and Culture by 0.2 per cent; and Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 1.2 per cent.

Declines were registered for Clothing and Footwear by 2.1 per cent; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels by 1.0 per cent; and Restaurants and Hotels by 0.1 per cent. Communication and Education remained constant during the period.

Between July 2016 and July 2017, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 1.7 per cent from 173.5 to 176.5 points. The average inflation rate for the 12-month period was 2.8 per cent.
