The Index of Retail Prices for July 2018 stood at 185.1 points, representing an increase of 0.7 per cent, when compared to the index of 183.8 points recorded in June.

The major increases in prices were registered in the Transport subsector, which rose by 4.2 per cent, followed by the Recreation and Culture subsector by 2.0 per cent; the Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels subsector by 0.7 per cent; the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages subsector by 0.6 per cent; and the Restaurants and Hotels subsector by 0.4 per cent.

The subsectors recording declines were Clothing and Footwear by 7.1 per cent; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance by 0.8 per cent; Health by 0.05 per cent; and Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.8 per cent.

Prices within the Communication, Education, as well as the Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics subsectors remained constant over the review period.

The year-on-year comparison of the retail price index for July showed a 4.9 per cent increase, moving from an index of 183.8 points in July 2017 to 185.1 points by July 2018.  The average inflation rate for the 12-month period was 0.4 per cent.
