The Index of Retail Prices for March 2018 stood at 183.6 points, representing a decrease of 0.5 per cent when compared to the 184.6 points recorded the previous month.

According to data produced by the Barbados Statistical Service, increases were recorded in Transport by 3.3 per cent and Restaurants and Hotels by 0.6 per cent.

Declines were recorded for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages by 2.2 per cent; Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics by 0.1 per cent; Clothing and Footwear by 0.1 per cent; Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels by 0.1 per cent; Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance by 0.4 per cent and Recreation and Culture by 1.8 per cent.

Health, Communication, Education and Miscellaneous Goods and Services remained constant during the period.

Between March 2017 and March 2018, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 6.2 per cent from 172.9 to 183.6 points. The average inflation rate for the 12-month period was 4.7 per cent.
