The Index of Retail Prices for September 2011 stood at 159.3 points. This represented an increase of 0.3 per cent when compared with 158.8 points recorded in August 2011.
Increases were recorded for fuel and light by 2.6 per cent; food by 0.9 per cent; education, recreation and miscellaneous by 0.7 per cent; household operations and supplies by 0.6 per cent; and housing by 0.1 per cent.
Decreases were registered for transportation by 1.6 per cent; clothing and footwear by 1.3 per cent; and medical and personal care by 0.5 per cent.
The Index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco remained constant at 159.4 points when compared with August 2011.
Between September 2010 and September 2011, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 10.4 per cent from 144.3 points to 159.3 points.
The average inflation rate for the 12-month period, September 2010 to September 2011 was 8.2 per cent.
