The Ministry of Health is interested in pursuing internships and training opportunities for Barbadian doctors in India.

During a courtesy call with India???s High Commissioner to Barbados, Subashini Murugesan today, Health Minister John Boyce noted the challenge that Barbados and other Caribbean islands faced finding spaces in the hospital setting for all the doctors seeking internships.

He told the High Commissioner that cooperation on this issue would be greatly appreciated by his Ministry.??Ms. Murugesan said that India was very open to providing training opportunities for both doctors and nurses.

She explained that with a population of 1.2 billion and a doctor to patient ratio of 1 to 1,000, the doctors there were able to hone superior diagnostic skills because of their exposure to large numbers of patients.??Mr. Boyce and the High Commissioner also discussed opportunities for sharing expertise and knowledge in areas such as medical tourism and pharmaceuticals.
