The Index of Industrial Production for the month of November 2013 was 80.5 per cent. This indicated that the output levels increased by 0.9 of a point, or 1.1 per cent compared with the previous month and declined by 0.1 of a point or 0.1 per cent when compared with November 2012.

The Manufacturing division, which is the main component of the Production Index, increased by 2.5 points or 4.0 per cent compared with October 2013 and rose by 1.7 points or 2.7 per cent compared with November 2012.

The Mining and Quarrying Division decreased by 16.7 points or 21.6 per cent compared with October 2013 and declined by 33.7 points or 35.7 per cent when compared with November 2012. The Electricity, Gas and Water Division fell by 3.7 points or 2.4 per cent below that of the previous month and also fell by 3.2 points or 2.7 per cent below that of November 2012.

Manufacturing Index

The group movements within this division are detailed as follows:

Food:

The Food division for November 2013 increased by 0.2 of a point or 0.2 per cent above that of October 2013 and rose by 2.3 points or 2.5 per cent in comparison to November 2012.

Beverages and Tobacco:

The combined Index decreased by 4.1 points or 5.8 per cent compared to the previous month and declined by 3.1 points or 4.4 per cent compared to November 2012.??The Beverages Index decreased by 5.7 points or 5.8 per cent when compared with the previous month and fell by 4.3 points or 4.4 per cent below that of November 2012.??The output for Tobacco rose by 0.1 of a point or 17.3 per cent compared with the previous month and rose by 0.1 of a point or 8.3 per cent above that of November 2012.

Wearing Apparel:

This division increased slightly by 0.2 of a point or 3.4 per cent above that of the previous month, and declined by 4.4 points or 41.9 per cent below the same period of the previous year.

Wooden Furniture:

This division decreased by 1.5 points or 22.8 per cent below October 2013 and declined by 1.3 points or 19.9 per cent below November 2012.

Chemicals:

The combined index for this division increased by 38.2 points or 25.5 per cent in comparison to the previous month and rose by 77.1 points or 69.3 per cent over November 2012.??The Industrial Chemical index increased by 42.8 points or 29.8 per cent below October 2013, and the Other Chemicals index rose by 36.4 points or 23.8 per cent over the previous month.

Non-Metallic Products:

Output for this group increased by 16.4 points or 9.0 per cent compared to October 2013 and decreased by 40.9 points or 17.1 per cent compared to November 2012.

Electronic Components:

The index for this group declined by 4.1 points or 23.6 per cent below the previous month and fell by 1.0 points or 7.0 per cent below the previous year.

Other Manufacturing:

This index increased by 3.2 points or 4.2 per cent over the previous month and increased by 5.0 points or 6.7 per cent over the previous year.

Mining and Quarrying

Within the mining sub-division, crude oil fell by 15.1 points or 25.6 per cent compared with the previous month and decreased by 31.4 points or 41.7 per cent compared with November 2012. The Quarrying sub-division fell by 17.9 points or 19.8 per cent compared with that of the previous month and fell by 35.3 points or 32.7 per cent below that of November 2012.

Electricity, Gas and Water

Within the Electricity, Gas and Water division, the net generation of electricity decreased by 6.5 points or 3.7 per cent below the previous month. Natural Gas increased by 0.1 of a point or 0.1 per cent over October 2013; net -generation of water rose by 3.8 points or 3.0 per cent over the previous month.
