The Index of Industrial Production for the month of September 2013 was 69.9 per cent. This indicated that the output levels decreased by 3.1 points or 4.2 per cent compared with the previous month and declined by 5.4 points or 7.1 per cent when compared with September 2012.

The Manufacturing division, which is the main component of the Production Index, decreased by 3.1 points or 5.6 per cent compared with August 2013 and declined by 20.8 points or 25.7 per cent compared with September 2012.

The Mining and Quarrying Division decreased by 0.2 of a point or 0.3 per cent compared with August 2013 and declined by 20.8 points or 25.7 per cent when compared with September 2012. The Electricity, Gas and Water Division fell by 3.4 points or 2.2 per cent below that of the previous month and also fell by 0.6 of a point or 0.4 per cent below that of September 2012.

Manufacturing Index
The group movements within this division are detailed as follows:

Food:

The Food division for September 2013 decreased by 5.0 points or 5.6 per cent below that of August 2013 and declined by 3.1 points or 3.6 per cent in comparison to September 2012.

Beverages and Tobacco:

The combined Index increased by 0.8 of a point or 1.5 per cent compared to the previous month and declined by 9.3 points or 14.2 per cent compared to September 2012.??The Beverages Index increased by 1.0 point or 1.3 per cent when compared with the previous month and fell by 13.0 points or 14.3 per cent below that of September 2012.??The output for Tobacco rose by 0.4 of a point or 160.3 per cent compared with the previous month and fell by 13.0 points or 14.3 per cent below that of September 2012.

Wearing Apparel:

This division increased slightly by 0.2 of a point or 3.4 per cent above that of the previous month, and declined by 4.4 points or 41.9 per cent below the same period of the previous year.

Wooden Furniture:

This division increased by 3.8 points or 3.7 per cent over August 2013 and declined by 22.2 points or 17.1 per cent over September 2012.

Chemicals:

The combined index for this division decreased by 2.3 points or 2.8 per cent in comparison to the previous month and fell by 32.5 points or 29.5 per cent below September 2012.??The Industrial Chemical index fell by 7.6 points or 4.5 per cent below August 2013, and the Other Chemicals index fell by 0.1 of a point or 14.6 per cent over the previous month.

Non-Metallic Products:

Output for this group decreased significantly by 70.5 points or 31.9 per cent compared to August 2013 and decreased by 25.6 points or 14.6 per cent compared to September 2012.

Electronic Components:

The index for this group advanced by 11.9 points or 90.8 per cent over the previous month and rose by 7.2 points or 40.0 per cent over the previous year.

Other Manufacturing:

This index increased by 0.9 points or 1.3 per cent over the previous month and decreased by 5.6 points or 7.7 per cent below the previous year.

Mining and Quarrying

Within the mining sub-division, crude oil fell by 10.6 points or 17.8 per cent compared with the previous month and decreased by 8.0 points or 14.0 per cent compared with September 2012. The Quarrying sub-division rose by 7.4 points or 12.2 per cent compared with that of the previous month and fell by 30.3 points or 30.7 per cent below that of September 2012.

Electricity, Gas and Water
Within the Electricity, Gas and Water division, the net generation of electricity decreased by 2.9 points or 1.7 per cent below the previous month. Natural Gas decreased by 4.0 points or 9.7 per cent over August 2013; net -generation of water declined by 4.8 points or 3.9 per cent over the previous month.
