The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 2.2 per cent in March 2015 compared with the previous month.
The growth in the index was due to increases in Mining and Quarrying by 21.3 per cent and the consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water by 7.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, a decline of 1.6 per cent was reflected in the index for Manufacturing.??The IIP for March 2015 recorded an increase of 0.9 per cent when compared with the previous year.
Growth was recorded in the index for Mining and Quarrying by 75.3 per cent, while decreases were recorded for Manufacturing by 0.5 per cent and Electricity, Gas and Water by 1.6 per cent.
Output for the Mining and Quarrying Sector grew by 75.3 per cent at the end of March compared with the previous year, with an increase in the production of Stone Quarrying by 116.1 per cent. A decrease was recorded for Mining by 16.5 per cent.
Production in the Electricity, Gas and Water Sector declined by 1.6 per cent when compared with the previous year due to decreases in the generation of electricity by 0.6 per cent, water by 5.2 per cent and natural gas by 5.7 per cent.
In the Manufacturing Sector, year-on-year output for March 2015 decreased by 0.5 per cent due to declines in the indices for Food and Beverages and Tobacco by 2.6 per cent each; Wearing Apparel by 14.8 per cent; Wooden Furniture by 1.4 per cent and Non-Metallic Minerals by 18.0 per cent.
Year-on-year increases were recorded for Chemicals by 47.2 per cent; Electronic Components by 9.1 per cent and Other Manufacturing by 5.5 per cent.
