Industrial Relations and related practices will form the centre of discussion when the Barbados Prison Officers Association hosts a four-day meeting for members of the executive membership of the Caribbean Association of Corrections (CAC) at the Blue Horizon Hotel, Rockley Christ Church.

The forum, which begins tomorrow, Tuesday, July 5, is aimed at providing participants with a broader understanding of the framework in tripartism and the various laws and regulations that govern industrial relations.?? The workshop will also seek to impress upon executive members why associations ought to be first recognised by their Prison Services, and the procedures that are involved when the business of those associations is being conducted.

According to one of the organisers: "Industrial relationship practices have become critically important for any organisation to be able to function effectively.?? It affects the roles of management, since they are responsible for managing those relations at the margin level.??

"The proposed Caribbean Association of Corrections is of the view that there is a need for proper orientation across the region’s Prison Services.?? They must know the legal rules and realise that discipline is not the mechanical application of steps in a procedure; and that they must be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to deal with day-to-day disciplinary problems," he said.????????

The workshop will conclude on Thursday, July 7.
