The Influenza A H1N1 virus, currently affecting some people in Barbados, is not associated with the Bird Flu.

The Ministry of Health explained that the Influenza A H1N1 virus, first detected in April 2009, causes illness in people, who may experience symptoms such as fever, cough and sore throat.

Bird Flu or Avian Flu infects birds, including ducks, chickens and other poultry.

While the Bird Flu can be transmitted from birds to humans, the Ministry has made it clear that there are no cases of Bird Flu in Barbados.
