Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Ian Gooding-Edghill, has lauded the efforts of the Drainage Division and the capital works undertaken in Holetown, which helped with the flow of water there.

He was speaking last evening during a press conference at Ilaro Court, following a tour of the island, after several areas were affected by the tropical wave, which passed the island.

“The Government of Barbados undertook a number of Infrastructure projects within the Holetown area.  In addition to that, the Drainage Division continues to clean the outfalls in that general area and that has alleviated some flooding,” Minister Gooding-Edghill stated.

He pointed out that the newly added infrastructure worked well. “As part of the Highway One upgrade, the Government not only installed footpaths, but also instituted certain drainage infrastructure improvements in the area, which has led to decreased flooding in that general area.”

Mr. EdgHill disclosed that the check dam held up to the large volume of water. “There are no major breaks in our infrastructure, again, along the same Holetown area… and it has maintained just behind the Sunset Crest area where we had dammed water, thanks to some technical cooperation that we received earlier, that also held up.”

The Minster said that teams had been activated in an effort to clear all blocked roads. “The MTW (Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources), along with the Roving Response Team and a number of private contractors that we mobilised to assist us, are continuing to execute the works in that area.  I can’t give you a timeline. We are asking them to work around the clock to facilitate those critical changes that we need to do in that area to allow traffic to flow,” he said.
