Minister of Health, Donville Inniss??

Minister of Health, Donville Inniss, has urged the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Board and the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) to return to the negotiating table.

His call was made during an hour-long meeting today at the Ministry of Health with a BAMP delegation. Mr. Inniss said his "main concern was the health of Barbadians, and I do not want any action to compromise that.

"The interest of patients and all Barbadians and visitors alike must remain at the centre of efforts to make major improvements in our public and private healthcare systems," he reiterated.

The Minister stressed that he had full confidence in the Chairman and the QEH Board and urged both sides to continue to discuss the issues and to reach an amicable solution.

He advised both parties to refrain from making any more public comments while discussions were ongoing. He also asked that no industrial action should be taken, since this would jeopardize the process.

"I want to see this matter removed from the public domain, and both parties sit down and seek to address the issues at hand," he emphasized.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Health Ministry, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner; the acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kenneth George; and senior Ministry officials,; as well as the President of BAMP, Dr. Carlos Chase; Dr. Ermine Belle, BAMP’s PRO, and other BAMP officials participated in the meeting.??
