Judges have completed their evaluation of the 20 semi-finalists’ projects in the National Innovation Competition and have announced the names of the five finalists who will vie for the top cash prize of $75 000, come March.

They are: Trevor Clarke with his project the Sitter; Randolph Sandiford, Crush Cane; Fernando Hood, Engine Knock Detection Monitor; Evariste & Dorothy Nurse, Secure Door Jam and Robert Lucas, Bio-Degradable Food Container made from Sugar Cane.

In giving a brief insight into the programme, the National Council for Science and Technology’s Senior Technical Officer, Charles Cyrus, said the contestants’ projects fell within the broad categories of information technology, materials and devices.

While lauding the participants for their creativity, he added: "The projects which were submitted were of a high quality and the judging process was very taxing."

The programme was officially launched on Wednesday, May 20, last year at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. jwilson@barbados.gov.bb
