Barbadians will get an opportunity to learn more about natural resources and weather systems when the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) “throw open its doors” for Open Day on Monday, March 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at its Husbands, St. James headquarters to commemorate World Water Day and World Meteorological Day.

This year, the themes for the two days are “Shared Water-Shared Opportunities” and “Weather, Climate and the Air we breathe” which will be celebrated Sunday, March 22 and Monday, March 23, respectively, by the World Meteorological Organisation.

To this end, the Open Day will seek to expose students and the general public to the fields of Meteorology and Hydrology through a series of displays and presentations by various local scientists and policymakers.

The day’s programme includes tours of the observation compounds; an exhibition of past, current, and proposed research projects; a simulation of a meteorological office and a movie show of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and CNN’s “Planet in Peril: Battle Lines”. Visitors will also get an understanding of the workings of hydrological and weather instruments. There will also be a lunchtime lecture series, commencing at 11:30 a.m., by scientists on topics such as African dust and health in Barbados.
