All secondary schools will soon have the opportunity to showcase the talent of their school choirs.

According to Minister of Education, Ronald Jones, “the Ministry will be facilitating inter-school choir competitions, whereby students can demonstrate their vocal abilities.”

Addressing the morning assembly of the Springer Memorial School today, Mr. Jones urged students to strive for excellence in all areas of endeavour. “When you do something good, always strive to do it even better,” he implored.

Congratulating the all-girls school on its “consistent remarkable performance” at the annual Inter-School Sports, Minister Jones encouraged students to continue to set high standards for themselves. “Set your goals high and make sure you achieve them. You are responsible for your own destiny,” he said.

While reaffirming government’s commitment to education, Mr.Jones also challenged teachers to be pro-active in their approach to education. “We cannot sit on our laurels. We have to ensure that our children are on the cutting edge of changes going on in education,” he pointed out.

Mr. Jones said that something needed to be done to increase the number of students gaining certificates at school.

“We want all of our children to succeed. We therefore need to redouble our efforts…Let us work assiduously to change the lives of our children,” he urged.

The Minister’s visit to the Springer Memorial School forms part of his planned visits to all the island’s primary and secondary schools, which commenced in April this year.
