Former Senator and Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, Derek Alleyne, is the Interim Director at the Urban Development Commission (UDC). His appointment takes effect from Saturday, August 1, and will run for two years.

Minister with responsibility for Urban Development, Christopher Sinckler, made the announcement today and officially welcomed Mr. Alleyne to the UDC.??

In addition, the Minister said more staff would be employed under the restructuring process at the Commission to assist the Director in carrying out his duties. These are two Assistant Directors, one each for Administration and Operations; and four Project Coordinators to oversee special projects, the Tenantry Transfer Programme, the Housing Programme and the Tenantry Road Repairs Programme.??

Mr. Sinckler also revealed that a Client Services Department would be put in place to deal with client issues.

Mr. Alleyne, who said he had already met with Board members and was quite acquainted with them, said his first task was to get to know his staff. "I am going to be new and therefore I have to be a listener; that is a strength that comes with being a trade unionist…you listen and then you have to get the work done," he observed.
