A number of activities are being planned in observance of International Men’s Day. which is being celebrated on Monday, November 19, under the theme: Making a Difference for Men and Boys.
Activities to mark the week-long celebrations will kick off on that same Monday with a ManAware Chatter Box Corner at Jubilee Gardens, Bridgetown, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Participating organizations for this event include the National HIV and AIDS Commission; Cancer Support Services; the Barbados Family Planning Association and the Men’s Education and Support Association (MESA).
The next day, Tuesday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. the Anglican Men’s Association will host a slide presentation and discussion on the topic: Men and Boys Partnering for Better Citizenship, at the St. Matthias Church Hall, St. Matthias, Christ Church. Topics to be discussed are Challenges Facing the Youth, Challenges Facing Men and Remedies and Solutions.
On Wednesday, November 21, the David Thompson Men’s Health Group will host a lecture on the topic: Men: Empowering Yourself at the David Thompson Health Complex beginning at 7:00 p.m. The featured speaker will be Trevor Marshall.
Activities will head to the north of the island on Thursday, November 22, when the Maurice Byer Men’s Health Group puts on a panel discussion on Whither Health Care Financing in Barbados at The Alexandra School, Speightstown, St. Peter, at 7:00 p.m.
Panellists will be Chief Executive Officer of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Dr. Dexter James; Vice President of Pensions at Sagicor, Steve Robinson; and Advisor to the Government of Barbados, Clyde Mascoll, while the Moderator will be David Ellis.
MESA is set to stage a Cricket Match on Friday, November 23, between St. Leonard’s Boys’ and The St. Michael School at the QEH Hospital Grounds at 11:00 a.m.
The week’s activities will culminate on Sunday, November 25, with a church service at the Ebenezer Revival Centre, Medford Road, No. 1 Whitehall Hall, St. Michael at 8:00 a.m., where Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde, will be the featured speaker.
Members of the public are invited to come out and participate in any of the activities planned for the week.
