An environmental extravaganza awaits patrons who head to the Folkestone Park and Marine Reserve this Wednesday, May 18, when the facility participates in the worldwide observation of International Museum Day 2011.

The Holetown, St. James location will be a hive of activity as the public is invited to tour the museum and various exhibits from the Junior Coral Reef Ambassadors of the St. James Secondary School, the Barbados Sea Turtle Project and the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

The free open day will also feature entertainment from the Barbados Landship, a tuk band and Mother Sally, along with the St. James Secondary School Steelband.?? Paid viewing of the museum and the special exhibits and entertainment will also be available tomorrow Tuesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 19.

International Museum Day has been observed since 1977, when it was established by the International Council of Museums, in an effort to highlight their importance to societal development.?? This year’s theme, ???Museum and Memory’, was chosen in recognition of the museum’s role as a story teller and guardian of memories.
