Students in primary and secondary schools as well as their teachers are being invited to enter the International Peace and Cooperation School Award Project 2012.

It is sponsored by the Spanish Human Rights Non-governmental Organisation "Peace and Cooperation" and the Office of Human Rights of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Madrid.

The competition is being held under the theme: Sport As The Key For Understanding and Peace, Everyone United and offers prizes that include six diplomas in each category; five 300 Euro prizes; and several presents from Villareal Football Club.

A key aim of the competition is to encourage the educational community worldwide to pass on to students and teachers the values inherent in sport including respect, discipline, self-control, obedience, cooperation, friendship, competitiveness, team work, participation, sharing, justice, skill (intellectually and physically) and creativity. Students up to six years old can enter a drawing which depicts how they imagine a sports competition among all countries would be.

Those in the seven to 12 years age group are asked to consider the definition on sport provided by the United Nations Office on Sports for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) before developing a poster and slogan which define sports and what sports means to the entrant. The UNOSDP defines sport as "Every activity that contributes to physical skill, mental well-being and social interaction, such as games, recreation, organised or competitive sports and local sports and games."

Students 13 to 15 years old are required to design a mural that shows the values and possibilities of a fairer and more generous world. They should consider that the UN plays a very important role in the promotion of sport in relation to the Millennium Development Goals and then develop their mural against the backdrop of how sport can contribute to attaining these goals.

A comic is what children aged 16 to 18 years old must produce for competition. They are urged to make a football team the focus of the comic and show how that team could aid in the attainment of the Millennium goals.

Teachers with an interest in the competition are invited to organise an event at their school "something like a World Cup, Superbowl, Six Nations, American Cup, Formula One, etc" and must either videotape or photograph it for competition. Schools can also create an anthem to cheer on the players and include it in the entry.??????

The organisers of the competition aim to create a Facebook group called Sport as the Key for Understanding and Peace and entrants are urged to be part of the 2022 followers it hopes to gain to coincide with the year in which Quatar will host the Football World Cup.

Entries must be submitted to the Office of Peace and Cooperation in Madrid before July 3 or to the Embassy of Spain in Port of Spain, Trinidad before June 4 via email or post. These should include full name, birth date, address, phone number and/or email of the student/teacher as well as the name, address, phone number and email of the school.??
