A delegation from the International Press Institute (IPI), the world’s oldest global press freedom organisation, held talks with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart on Tuesday at Ilaro Court, where the decriminalisation of defamation was one of the issues discussed.

Some of the points addressed were government’s proposal to amend its law with respects to defamation, as well as the need to educate the media about what is criminal defamation.??

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite on Monday at Government Headquarters.

The IPI team was in Barbados from June 9 to 12, on a Caribbean tour as a forerunner to the IPI World Congress, to be held in Trinidad &Tobago from June 23 to June 26.
