Barbados and Japan have pledged to forge stronger ties in several areas.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and Japan’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Yoshimasa Tezuka, gave this assurance yesterday during a meeting at Ilaro Court.
Mr. Stuart spoke of the possibility of deepening the contact between the two countries in the area of international business, by revisiting a proposed double taxation treaty.
He also noted that the two sides could also look at an agreement in the area of renewable energy, and commended the Ambassador for his country’s ability to recover relatively quickly following the devastating earthquake and tsunami a year ago.
Ambassador Tezuka spoke to the possibility of grant funding for a Government project which could be made available to Barbados following the signing of an agreement between the two countries.
Ambassador Tezuka is based in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Barbados and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1967.
