“Education stands at the foundation of whatever we do in Barbados.”

This assertion was made by Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, as he gave the opening remarks at the Education Parade and March in Queen’s Park today.

Addressing the over 3,000 students and teachers from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, as well as officials from the Ministry of Education, who participated in the march, Mr. Jones encouraged the young people to take advantage of the opportunities before them.

“This is your time…this belongs to you…reach out and grasp it with everything that you have,” he urged. He further noted that the country “will be better” with them as part of its future.

The event, which is part of the activities to mark Education Month, moved throughout Bridgetown before returning to Queen’s Park. Its objective was to draw the public’s attention to the important role which education plays in personal and national development, and to celebrate the achievements of the various educational institutions in Barbados.

The event also formed part of the Ministry’s celebrations to mark Barbados’ 50th Anniversary of Independence.
