Six individuals with teaching experience will assist in judging the upcoming Royal Fidelity Merchant Bank and Trust competition National Distinguished Teachers Awards. ??The community initiative, which is being held in association with the Barbados Union of Teachers, seeks to recognise and reward 10 exceptional teaching professionals with the deserving title and BDS $2,000 each.

The six are: Deputy Chief Education Officer, Joy Gittens; former Senior Assistant Registrar in the Measurement and Evaluation Division, Joyce Chase; Principal of the Garrison Secondary School, Matthew Farley; part-time lecturer in Language Teaching Methodology, University of the West Indies In-service diploma programme, Grace Pilgrim, Board member of the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation, and former teacher at Mapps College, St. Philip, Keith Miller and former teacher at the Lodge School, Mac Fingall.

They will be joined by Managing Director, Royal Fidelity Merchant Bank and Trust (Barbados) Limited, Charles Chambers, to select the winners of the competition, which starts from April 12.??

The "Royal Fidelity National Distinguished Teachers Awards" is open to both the public and private teaching sectors and will accept nominations for nursery, primary, secondary, as well as tertiary level and special needs teachers in Barbados.??

To be nominated, persons must be employed full-time as classroom teachers in the Barbadian Educational System and have at least five years teaching experience as of January 1, 2011.??
