Junior Minister of Tourism, Dionne Weekes, will travel to St. Martin this Thursday, September 15 to attend the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s (CTO) Regional Tourism Youth Congress 2011.

The 16-year-old Queen’s College student, who has already completed a three-week internship at Mango Bay Hotel, St. James and training in broadcasting and public speaking as part of her ministerial role, will participate in the competition, which is a highlight of the CTO’s Inaugural State of the Industry Conference.

Junior Ministers from across the region will come together for the competition, which will simulate a CTO Board of Directors’ Meeting where prepared topics relevant to information communications technology, community tourism and increasing intra-regional travel will be addressed. There will also be a ???mystery’ question which will test each Minister’s knowledge about tourism in his or her respective country.

In addition, students will also have the opportunity to participate in sessions during the conference and tour attractions and sites across St. Martin.

The Junior Minister of Tourism for Barbados was awarded her title last December, at the Ministry of Tourism’s Annual Speak-Off Competition, which is part of the Tourism Education and Awareness and Me Programme.?? It provides young people with the opportunity to develop their communication skills and share their views on tourism.
