Justice Andrew Burgess, who is currently serving as a Justice of Appeal on the Barbados Court of Appeal, recently presented Prime Minister Freundel Stuart with a copy of his book Commonwealth Caribbean Company Law during a recent courtesy call at Ilaro Court.

Mr. Stuart congratulated him on his achievement, saying he was pleased with his attempts to ???indigenise our jurisprudence???, given that the text books used were mostly from outside the region.

Justice Burgess said it was reported to him that the book, which was published in 2013, ???is doing very well in Canada??? and is also being used by practitioners and law students across the region.

Justice Burgess is a Professor of Corporate and Commercial Law and a former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies.

The Prime Minister further commented that Justice Burgess had manifested the potential to educate long ago when, as a much younger man, he had co-authored a casebook on the Law of Contract with the late Dr. Roop Chaudhary, which highlighted important West Indian cases.

He expressed the hope that the learned Justice of Appeal would not lose his appetite for writing books, although he conceded that the need to write judgements in the Court of Appeal would impose severe constraints on his time.
