Barbados now has 31 new Justices of the Peace (JPs).

In a ceremony held at Government House earlier today, the new JPs, 20 men and 11 women, took the Oath of Allegiance and Judicial Oath before Governor General, Sir Elliott Belgrave.

While addressing those gathered, Sir Elliott underscored the importance of their new appointment, adding that ???the highest integrity is expected???. He also advised them to refrain from engaging in ???anything unlawful or underhanded???.

Monica Forde, one of the new JPs, stated that she was ???honoured??? to have been appointed as Justice of the Peace, as she saw it as an opportunity to further assist persons within her community.??Among the many duties performed by JPs is signing and certifying the validity of copies of official documents.
