It is kite flying time once again and the public is being reminded that no one is allowed to fly kites near the Grantley Adams International Airport.

This reminder has come from officials in the Civil Aviation Department, who are also warning that anyone found in breach of these regulations can, and will be prosecuted.

The Civil Aviation (Aircraft Operations) (Amendment) Regulations 2011, 5A (c), state that "no person shall, unless permission is obtained in writing from the director, fly a kite within five kilometres of an airport perimeter, or in any other area that may be specified by the Director."

This includes areas along Oistins, Christ Church to Boarded Hall, St. George, Brereton and Six Roads, St. Philip and back to South Point and Oistins.

No fly zones also extend to Silver Hill, Gall Hill, Kingsland, Wotton, Maxwell, Cane Vale, Newton, Scarborough, Pegwell, Gibbons, Thornbury Hill, Silver Sands, Ealing Park, Wilcox, Lowlands, Coverley and Charnocks, all in Christ Church.

This zone also extends to Pilgrim Road, Fairy Valley, Durants, Callenders, Chancery Lane, Parish Land and Lead Vale.

However, residents of some St. Philip communities have also been put on notice that they too are not allowed to fly their kites. These include Gemswick, Mangrove, Heddings, Foul Bay, Ocean City, Diamond Valley and Rock Hall.

Any person caught flying kites in the no fly zone will be guilty of an offence, and if convicted could be fined up to $50, 000, or imprisoned for 12 months; or could be indicted and fined $100, 000, or imprisoned for two years.
