Members of the public are invited to come out and learn how to fly their kites safely this Easter season.

With the popular kite flying season just weeks away, the Department of Emergency Management in partnership with the Barbados Light and Power Company, will make two presentations on kite flying safety.

The first of these presentations will take place on Thursday, April 10, in the St. Michael School Auditorium, Martindales Road, St. Michael, while the second one will be held in the Princess Margaret Secondary School Auditorium, Six Roads, St. Philip, on Tuesday, April 15. Both sessions begin at 6:30 p.m.

These presentations are designed to heighten awareness about the dangers of flying kites near power lines and to promote the importance of safety and safe habits in the community.

During the sessions, participants will learn about how electricity is transmitted through the power lines; the dangers associated with power lines and kites; the effects of unsafe kite flying practices on the reliability of the electricity supply, and the benefits of safety when dealing with electricity.

All are invited and a special invitation is being extended to members of the District Emergency Organisations across the island.
