The Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTI) advises the public that there will be a temporary closure of the bridge on the KNR Husbands Highway in Speightstown, St. Peter, as a result of the ongoing Salt Pond Flood Mitigation Project.
This temporary closure is for four months commencing Thursday, September 30, until Monday, January 24, 2022, should weather permit the scheduled works. As a result, there may be extended transit times for motorists using this route and alternative routes should be utilised, where possible.
Motorists traveling through Speightstown via Highway One (West Coast Road) will be diverted through Queen Street and Sand Street to continue along Highway One heading north. Local access will be permitted to all businesses and residents in the area up to the bridge closure (Chefette, Sol Gas Station, A&A Auto Parts etc.).
Motorists traveling through Speightstown from the Ronald Map Highway via The Whim or Ashton Hall in a westerly direction will not be allowed to turn left at the Four Cross Junction of Church Street on to Highway One in a southerly direction. They will be required to keep straight along Church Street, travelling along Queen Street in a southerly direction towards Highway One.
All emergency vehicles will have dedicated access routes via Around the Town heading north and south adjacent to the disrupted KNR Husbands Highway.
Public service vehicles entering Speightstown from Highway One moving in a northerly direction will be detoured left, on to Queen Street and Sand Street, turn right onto Major Walk and proceed to the depots on Highway One. Exiting Speightstown, the PSVs will proceed in a southerly direction, turning right on to Church Street, left on to Queen Street, to follow on to Highway One.
Operators of long and/or articulated vehicles are encouraged to seek alternative routes as they will have extreme challenges traversing the areas.
