The Labour Department is inviting students to participate in its 75th Anniversary Schools??? Essay Competition.

The competition will be conducted in three age categories: a Children???s Division for entrants aged 8 to 11; a Junior Division for children aged 12 to 14; and a Senior Division for those aged 15 to 18.

The topic for the Children???s Division is: True Labour Heroes of Barbados, with a limit of 200 words, while for the Junior Division, the topic is: What is Justice in Employment? with a limit of 350 words.

The Seniors have a limit of 500 words and must write on the topic: 75 Years of Labour Reform ??? What Has Changed? Sources should be referenced where research is done.

Essays must be typed in Times New Roman at a font size of 12 and with 1.5 line spacing, or submitted in the student???s own legible handwriting. Entries should be accompanied by a completed entry form and no names or identifiers of entrants should be written in or on the essay.

Students may email their essays to essaycompetition@labour.gov.bb, or submit them to the Labour Department, 2nd Floor Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael. The deadline for submission is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30. Winners will be announced on Monday, November 23, and the prizes will be awarded on that date.

The Labour Department reserves the right to use the winning entrants??? names and photographs for promotional purposes. The entrant shall be acknowledged as the producer of the work and is permitted to identify him or herself as such.
