Minister of Labour, Senator Dr. Esther Byer, earlier today, met with the Barbados Investment & Development Corporation (BIDC) and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) in separate meetings to resolve the current industrial action.
The move comes as part of an effort to resolve the ongoing industrial action taken by the NUPW in response to what have been termed ???letters of involuntary resignation??? which were issued by the BIDC to 13 of its employees.
Speaking to the media after the meetings, Minister Byer stated that it was unusual for a minister to intervene in this way without a matter first being referred to her department; however, she said ???these are unusual circumstances.??? ???Let me make it clear that this is not a discussion, but, it is a means for a resolution in the best interest of the country,??? the Labour Minister pointed out.
Negotiations are expected to continue tomorrow when both parties will again meet with Dr. Byer and members of the Labour Department in an effort to seek a resolution to the impasse.
