Sponsors of the Ministry of Labour’s NACOSH (National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health) Poster Competition have been acknowledged for their ongoing efforts to bring attention to the Safety and Health at Work Act 2005.
The accolades were made by NACOSH Chairman, Peter Earle, as the sponsors made official presentations of their contributions to the Ministry at the Warrens Office Complex yesterday.
Representatives from platinum sponsors, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Neal and Massy Barbados Group of Companies, handed over both monetary contributions and competition prizes during the ceremony.
In his remarks, Mr. Earle told those present: "We need to create the kind of safety culture in organisations that would make people conscious of their responsibilities that will lead to a safer environment, which is one of the responsibilities of the employers…and employees."????????
Acting Director of the EPD, Anthony Headley, echoed similar sentiments, noting that if the educational drive was continued, "we could reduce the number of accidents that we are seeing in the workplace…We want to have a safety culture expanding beyond the workplace and into general society".
Manager of Health, Safety and the Environment at Neal and Massy, Brian Reid, described the poster competition as "a fantastic initiative which the company was pleased to support because it sought to sensitise and bring awareness to individuals who are in the schools…who will eventually come into the work force."
Competition winners will be awarded at a ceremony next month.
