In an effort to sensitise stakeholders and the general public about the updated Barbados Standard Occupational Classification System (BARSOC), the Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations will conduct a sensitisation breakfast workshop on Monday, July 30.

It will run from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m., at the Cave Hill School of Business, Cave Hill, St. Michael, and will share the results of the research undertaken in support of the updated system.

In 2016, the Ministry, through funding from the HRD Strategy Programme, facilitated a consultancy to update the BARSOC. It is a “dictionary” of occupations and a common classification reference for categorising data by occupations in Barbados, was updated physically and electronically through this consultancy.

In 2017, the Ministry provided additional funding for the design of a web-based version of the BARSOC 2016 to allow key users easier access to the system.

At the upcoming workshop, there will be an overview of BARSOC 2016; a demonstration of the BARSOC via the Ministry’s website and a presentation on research conducted in support of the BARSOC 2016, by Chief Operations Officer of Profiles Caribbean Inc.; and President of the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados Inc., Shane Howell.
