Property owners whose land taxes are in arrears with the Land Tax Department for the years 1981-82 to 2011-12, have been given a window of opportunity to bring their outstanding balances up-to-date.

The amnesty, which was announced by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, during this year’s Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals, will run from 30 days commencing from yesterday, Monday, July 2, and ending on Wednesday, July 31.

Commissioner of Land Tax, Wayne Forde, pointed out that although there would be no extensions to the amnesty, it allowed taxpayers to benefit from a 100 per cent waiver of both penalty and interest, depending on the full amount of the principal being a "one-off" payment for the respective year.

Additionally, taxpayers, who are unable to pay off the total amount, can make payments on a year-by-year basis and still benefit from the waiver of taxes for those years.

Payments can be made Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Land Tax offices in the National Insurance Building, Fairchild Street, St. Michael; the Holetown Complex, St. James; and Southern Plaza Complex, Oistins, Christ Church.

Further information on the amnesty may be obtained by calling the Land Tax Department at 426-5686.
